A methodology to develop a geospatial transportation typology

We introduce a methodology to develop geo-typology (geotype) that categorizes each location in the United States terms of their main drivers transportation demand and supply. first comprehensive set geotypes for both urban rural areas across entire States. This typology is designed facilitate national level modeling multi-modal system's response alternative investment strategies differentiated different types locations. two-stage clustering procedure systematically quantitatively characterize ways which locations nation are similar or with respect potential interest. First, we cluster all 73,057 census tracts, using factor analysis CLARA algorithm into “microtypes” based on street network economic characteristics.
